Description
Charles W. Lyon (1887-1960) practiced law until 1955, and served as a state assemblyman and state senator. The collection consists of correspondence, clippings, speeches, and awards related to Charles W. Lyon while serving as a California state senator and as a Speaker of the California State Assembly.

Lyon was born September 13, 1887 in Los Angeles, California; admitted to the California bar in 1910 and practiced law until 1955; city attorney, Venice, California, 1911-14; California state assemblyman, 1914-18; California state senator, 1918-26; returned to California State Assembly, 1932-46; speaker of the California State Assembly, 1942-46; re-elected to the California State Assembly, 1950-54; married Nancy Player in Los Angeles, California, on September 21, 1911; died in Beverly Hills, California, on July 20, 1960.
