    Biography/Organization History

    James J. Parsons was born on November 15, 1915 in Cortland, New York. When he was 13, his family relocated to Monrovia, California. After graduating high school, Parsons enrolled at Pasadena Junior College before transferring to UC Berkeley, from which he recieived an AB in econimics (1937) and an M.A. in Geography (1939). He was drafted into the Army in 1941 and worked as an airphoto analyst in New Caledonia before returning to Berkeley to complete his PhD in Geography (1948).
    Parsons’ professorial career began as an assistant professor until he was promoted to the position of Associate Professor (1952-1960), then to Professor (1960-1986) and Professor Emeritus (1986-1997).

    Collection consists of personal, professional and academic incoming correspondence for James Jerome Parsons. Also included are reviews written by Parsons as well as reviews of his work written by others.
    Collection is in both alphabetical order (when folders are ordered by name of author) and chronological order in folders that do not hold content written by a specific author. Most documents are typed and dated.
