**Abstract:**The William Arveson papers document his career as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley from 1969 to 2011. Professor Arveson was a leading expert and original researcher in the theory of operators and operator algebras, areas with close ties to physics, especially to quantum theory.
