Description
This collection consists of manuscripts of vocal compositions, mostly songs or SATBs, with English and Russian texts, and some correspondence and notes.
Background
Composer Edgar Grossmann was born in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 14, 1882. He emigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Los Angeles. Grossman composed art songs, primarily setting poetry to music, and also taught music. In 1952, he married Marie Achron, widow of composer and violinist Joseph Achron. Edgar Grossmann died in Los Angeles on September 17, 1960.
