Biography

Herbert James Wrightson was born on Dec. 20, 1869 in Sunderland, England; studied at the Leipzig Conservatory with Salomon Jadassohn and Carl Reinecke; settled in the U.S. in 1897; taught in Philadelphia, Chicago, and elsewhere; works include a symphony, 15 organ pieces, 29 piano works, and 144 songs, some included in various hymnals; published Elements of the theory of music (1921); he died on Dec. 24, 1949 in West Lebanon, N.Y.

Scope and Content

Collection consists of manuscript, published and reprinted publications of music by Herbert J. Wrightson, including SATB octavos, sheet music, and anthologies of works for chorus, voice and piano, organ solo and piano solo.
