    Acquisition Information

    The collection was first donated to the Isla Vista Community Council by Hope Smith. Donated by the Isla Vista Recreation and Parks District, 1992.

    Administrative History

    The Isla Vista Improvement Association was an organization formed by Isla Vista landowners "to promote the welfare and general improvement of the Isla Vista area." The Association held monthly meetings concerned with issues such as taxes, sewers, street signs and sidewalks. The Association presented the interests of stakeholders to local government. Meetings were attended by representatives of UCSB and the county government. In 1967, the Isla Vista Improvement Association merged with the Isla Vista Homeowners Association to form the Isla Vista Association.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection contains a short historical sketch of the organization and its records, including by-laws, minutes of meetings, membership lists, financial statements and correspondence.
