Scope and Contents

This collection contains papers of American actor Adolphe Menjou (1890-1963) chiefly related to his involvement in the anti-communist movement. Materials consist of magazines, pamphlets, and reprints dealing with the anti-communist movement (1948-1961) and two scrapbooks of clippings and related materials detailing the "Red Menace" in Hollywood and America (1947-1955) and Menjou's involvement with anti-communism. Among the printed material are three issues of the "Hartnett Report" dealing with anti-communists and the television series "Brenner." While most of the collection relates to anti-communism, there are also three miscellaneous stills from the silent film Hearts in Exile (1915); a program and ship's passenger list related to Menjou's trip to the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Germany; and an empty presentation box labeled: "Adolphe Menjou / Your six appearances on our Screen Guild Players radio program helped to make this possible."
