    Biographical / Historical

    Deborah Meadows is a noted poet, playwright, essayist, and Liberal Studies Professor Emerita at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Born in 1956 to a working-class family in Buffalo, New York, Meadows graduated from SUNY, Buffalo with a degree in Philosophy and English. After graduating, Meadows performed factory work before moving to California to continue her education, earning an M.A. in English from CSU Los Angeles and an M.F.A. from Antioch University.
    A prolific writer, Meadows has published numerous books of poetry and plays, including Translation, the bass accompaniment: Selected Poems; Representing Absence; and Itinerant Men; as well as the recently published Three Plays. Meadows has received several recognitions for her writing, including, most notably, a nomination for Los Angeles Poet Laureate in 2014. She has also received the Cal Poly Pomona University Library's Golden Leaves Award multiple times.
    Active in her professional community, Meadows has served as a juror on the panel for The America Awards since 2000 and on the board of the Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association, where she also served as President in 2014.
