    Abstract: The collection consists of drafts of Iskandar al-Magribi and the Memoirs of Cherif Soliman, correspondence related to research and publication, and administrative records. It includes a Spanish translation of El Rosal de Las Rosas de Purpura and a photocopy of the French translation from the Arabic of Le Divan d'Amour du Cherif Soliman.

    Biographical Information:

    Raymund F. Wood was born in London, England on November 9, 1911 and came to live in the United States as a child. After high school, he studied at St. Mary’s University, receiving a degree in Classics in 1931, and a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Gonzaga University in 1939. Wood taught English at the University of Santa Clara from 1939-1941, then briefly worked as a teaching assistant at the University of California, Los Angeles, until enlisting in the US Army in 1942. Following the end of WWII, he completed a Library Science degree at the University of Southern California and then accepted a position as a librarian at Fresno State College, where he worked from 1950-1966. In 1966, Wood relocated to Los Angeles to accept a position as Associate Dean and Professor of Library Science at UCLA. Wood retired from UCLA in 1978. Wood’s published work focuses on the humanities and social sciences, with a concentration in California history. He also published a number of articles in journals of professional librarianship. Raymund F. Wood passed away on April 3, 1998, in Encino, California.
