events, and places in Mexico taken by photographer C.B. (Charles Betts) Waite in the early 20th century.

Processing of the C.B. Waite photographs was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside
as part of the Special Collection & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded
by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.
C.B. (Charles Betts) Waite was an American photographer, born in Akron, Ohio in 1861. Waite moved to Mexico City in 1896,
where he opened his first studio on Calle de Rosales. A little later, Waite opened two more studios in San Cosme and San Juan
de Letrán, both located in Mexico City.
Waite did a great deal of work as a traveling photographer, and he would travel to remote locations by train, car, horseback,
and even on foot. He produced thousands of photographs in his career, which became favorites among the illustrated press,
tourists, and collectors.
The collection consists of approximately black and white photographs of various cities, buildings, historic sites, people,
events, and places in Mexico taken by photographer C.B. (Charles Betts) Waite in the early 20th century.
