    Biographical/Historical note

    The Medford, Oregon based firm Patterson, Langford and Stewart was one of three firms chosen by the City of Santa Barbara as consultants to the Santa Barbara Redevelopment Agency. The firm’s alternative land use suggestions, which consisted of five, area wide, alternate land use and transportation plans, were complied into a report in 1974, entitled Santa Barbara’s Central City: Choices for the Future.

    Scope and Content note

    The Patterson, Langford and Stewart drawings for the Santa Barbara Central City Redevelopment project span 3 linear feet and date from circa 1974. The collection consists of 25 architectural drawings documenting the firm’s alternative land use suggestions. Drawings include: a land use plan and boundary map, proposed transportation infrastructure maps, presentation drawing of a proposed neighborhood recreation facility, an east beach design plan, a presentation drawing of a proposed housing unit in Mission Creek at Lower State Street, a presentation drawing of a ocean-oriented industry on the lagoon, a proposed neighborhood shopping center at Mission Creek, a proposed freeway bridge at the State street undercrossing, several alternative drawings of the central business district expansion, and a proposed renovation of the Plaza de la Guerra.
