Abstract: These Bills of lading (SAFR 417, HDC 498) date from 1851 to 1867. The earliest bill of lading is dated 1851, is for the shipment
of steel and shovels by Collins & Co. from New York to San Francisco aboard the COMET. The three other bills of lading are
dated 1858 to 1867. They document shipments of metals (copper) from New York to the U.S. Branch Mint in San Francisco. The
first shipped by Moro Phillips on board the GALATEA is dated 1858, the second shipped by Hendricks & Brothers on board the
PANTHER is dated 1864, and the third shipped by the U.S. Mint in Philadelphia on board the HARRIET is dated 1867. This collection
has been processed and is open for use without restriction.
