Series I. 1969 American Federation of Teachers Strike at San Jose State College 1967-1970

Scope and Contents

This series contains materials that date from 1967 to 1970 and are related to the strike that took place on the San Jose State College campus in early 1969. Greb was a member of American Federation of Teachers Local 1362 in San Jose, and during the strike served as the chief spokesperson for the union. Included in this series are official documents issued by the AFT and SJSC, as well as news reports in the form of clippings and SJSC news report recordings.

Series II. First Radio Broadcasting Station Claim 1909-2007

Scope and Contents

This series contains materials compiled by Greb during his research to identify Charles Herrold’s San Jose broadcasting station as the first one in the world. Herrold’s station began operating in 1909 out of a school run by Herrold, and continues today as San Francisco’s KCBS. Materials in this series include interviews conducted by Greb of Herrold’s colleagues, documents from the 50th anniversary of broadcasting celebration that Greb organized, newspaper clippings and copies of talks and lectures Greb presented on the topic.

Series III. Publications Authored by Greb 1909-2010

Scope and Contents

The third series consists of copies of two of Greb’s publications: the book that resulted from his research into the first radio broadcasting station, Charles Herrold, Inventor of Radio Broadcasting; and his memoir, entitled Google Brain: Making your memoir a time machine on the Internet. Included in this series is a manuscript of Greb’s book on Herrold, as well as images used in the book and other research associated with it.

Series IV. Broadcast Journalism at San Jose State 1961-1985

Scope and Contents

In 1957, Professor Greb convinced Dr. Bentel to create the first college level journalism program on the West Coast: San Jose State's School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Greb then founded the school's Radio-Television News Center, featuring student anchors delivering radio and televised news programs to the campus and the general public. Notable items in this series include magnetic tape reel recordings of award winning radio programs on Vietnam War Protests, and photo prints of San Jose State students working in the Radio Television News Center.
