    Scope and Content

    The Will Connell Slides Collection contains 408 color slides taken by Will Connell, which were donated by his son, Will Connell, to the California Museum of Photography. This collection contains a wide variety of architectural and landscape photographs, taken in either the United States or Germany. Many of the slides were taken in Alaska and California. The slides from Germany emphasize the architecture of Rotenburg, Frankfurt and Munich. The collection reveals the geography and architecture of these places in the 20th century.

    Biographical/Administrative History

    Connell began his professional career in the late 1920s in California. Publications employing Connell include: Allyear Club, Touring Topics (later Westways), Better Homes and Gardens, Colliers, Weekly Cosmopolitan, Country Gentlemen, Life, Successful Farming, Sunset, Time, U.S. Camera, Woman's Day, Woman's Home Companion, and Vogue. He belonged to a circle which Kevin Starr proclaimed as the "urban bohemian intelligentsia." Will Connell captured California during a time of growth and prosperity. Will Connell's career was that of artist, teacher, technician and entrepreneur.

    Arrangement

    The slides are arranged by location in one box, contained in six folders: 1. Alaska, 2 and 3. California, 4. New Mexico, 5. New York, 6. Germany.
