Album of photographs and signatures of workers of the Stratford Works, presented to Sir William Birt, general manager of the
Great Eastern Railway, on the occasion of his knighting, Jan. 1, 1897 in recognition of his leadership in making GER one of
the most enterprising and progressive railway companies of England and of the world.

Photographs are mounted on rectos of heavy white paper, within ornamental frames hand-painted in watercolors, each decorated
with a different type of branch and leaf, including grasses, morning glory, ivy, pine, and bamboo.
Bound in dark green pebble-grain leather, with gilt rolled border of leaves and flowers; inner panel, containing gold-stamped
cover title "To Sir William Birt. January 1897," ruled in gilt, with ornamental gilt cornerpieces; ornamental gilt spine panels;
inner gilt dentelles; marbled endpapers; all edges gilt.
Spec. Coll. copy: in modern beige cloth-covered clamshell box, with spine title "Stratford Works."
