Description
The W.H. Hutchinson collection (SAFR 17563, HDC 374) consists of reproductions of purser voyage reports from Matson Line vessels from 1940 to 1944; an oral history interview with William Hutchinson conducted by William Lang from California State University, Chico in 1977. The oral history is a 43 page typed reproduction titled, "Eleven Years as a Purser with the Matson Navigation Company, 1933-1944;" and six original letters of "tin can mail." These seem to be correspondence from a trader on the Islands of Tonga in the 1930s. The collection is available for research use without restriction.
