Background
Charles J. Prudhomme (1854-1934) was the son of Frenchman Leon Victor Prudon and a Californio mother, Mercedes Tapia. He
was an active member of the Historical Society of Southern California, and he was a collector of historical artifacts and
photographs. Prudhomme’s father took part in the Bear Flag Revolt of 1846.
