Records of California's State Council of Defense and the state division of the Women's Committee, with its headquarters at 719 So. Hill Street, Los Angeles, Calif. Correspondence, reports, receipts and cancelled checks. Ledger; activity book, June 1917-January 1919; checkbook, 1919. Pamphlets and other ephemera. The State Council worked on domestic issues during the war years, including Americanization; child welfare; food administration; education; educational propaganda; girls war service; health and recreation; home economics; information and library; liberty loans; publicity; Red Cross; social agencies; and women in industry.
