Hal Ashby was an American director active in film from 1970 to 1988 and film editor active from around 1950 to 1969. He received an Academy Award for editing IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (1967) and was nominated for editing THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING, THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING (1966). Ashby was also nominated for directing COMING HOME (1978).
The Hal Ashby papers span the years 1940s-1980s (bulk 1960s-1980s) and encompass approximately 81.4 linear feet.
