Acquisition
The bulk of the collection was donated by Ed Sebesta to the International Gay and Lesbian Archives in 1987.
Scope and Contents
Correspondence, articles, manuscripts, clippings, questionnaires, surveys, research papers, newsletter editorial records,
press releases, fliers, and photographs of Ed Sebesta, 1964-1995. The correspondence and photographs document his work for
the Lesbian and Gay Associated Engineers and Scientists (LGAES) and his personal and professional connections in Asia. The
LGAES records also include research, administrative, outreach, and project records. The non-LGAES project records document
his interest in gay Asian-American rights, gay politics, and the neo-Confederate movement. Articles and manuscripts written
by Sebesta are included in the LGAES and non-LGAES project records sections. The clippings show Sebesta's interests in gay
rights issues.
Biography
Edward H. Sebesta was involved with the Lesbian and Gay Associated Engineers and Scientists professional association, including
as president, circa 1980-1985. During this time, he also advocated for gay rights issues, including for gay Asian-Americans.
He was one of the editors of
Neo-Confederacy: A Critical Introduction published by the University of Texas Press in 2008, and was co-editor with James Loewen of
The Confederate and Neo-Confederate: The 'Great Truth' About the 'Lost Cause published by the University Press of Mississippi in 2010. As of 2014, he continues to author two blogs, maintain a website,
and publish in peer reviewed academic journals on the neo-Confederate movement.
