    Biographical/Historical note

    California Journal was a monthly publication dedicated to California politics and public policy issues. In 1970, founders Vic Fazio, Thomas Hoeber and Jerome Evans published the first edition of the journal. From 1990 to 2003, it was operated by State Net. It eventually ceased publication in 2005 due to financial issues.
    During it's time of operation, California Journal had many writers and editors, including Lou Cannon, former senior White House correspondent of the Washington Post. In addition, many artists contributed their political cartoons to the journal.

    Separated Materials note

    The California Journal publications were separated from the collection, cataloged, and added to the Serials Collection in the Department of Special Collections and University Archives.
    The microfilm of the California Journal were separated from the collection, cataloged, and added to the Microfilm Collection in the University Library Media Center.

    Immediate Source of Acquisition note

    Collection was donated to the Department of Special Collections and University Archives from William Hauck in 2007.
