Scope and Contents note

The Apollo Opera Company index of composers is a collection of 58 16 x 11 cm notebooks. The notebooks are an alphabetical listing of the composers and their operas. There are also two appendices. The first is "Collective Composers" and the second is "Celebrity Composers". Both of the appendices were compiled by Nicoclis G. Moraitis.

Immediate Source of Acquisition note

The collection was created and assembled by Nicoclis George Moraitis, and later donated to the Speros Basil Vryonis Center for the Study of Hellenism. After the closure of the Vryonis Center in 2000, it arrived at the CSUS University Library in 2003 as part of the Vryonis Center's library, which was renamed the Tsakopoulos Hellenic Collection.

Biographical/Historical note

In 1975 Nicoclis George Moraitis (1924- ) founded and served as producer for New York's Apollo Opera Company. It's purpose was to revive neglected opera masterpieces of the past.
