Abstract: This collection of papers spanning from 1999-2000 document First Assistant Craig J. Lane's work on production of the television
movies The Secret of Giving (1999) and By Dawn's Early Light (2000). Craig J. Lane (b. October 10, 1961) lives and works
in Vancouver, British Columbia, where both of these films were produced. Production materials include pre- and post-production
papers and memos, schedules, contact information, contracts, technical drawings, and video tapes.

Biographical / Historical Note
Craig J. Lane was born October 10, 1961 in Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in nearby Richmond. After studying film
at Simon Fraser University, Lane entered the local motion picture industry in 1988 as a set Production Assistant. In 1989,
Lane moved off the set and into the production office as an Assistant Production Coordinator. Lane has worked on such productions
as television series
Call of the Wild (2000) and
Jeremiah (2002), and feature films
Snow Dogs (2002),
The Chronicles of Riddick (2004),
Deck the Halls (2006), and
Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011). In 2012, Lane is still active in both film and television series production.
The Secret of Giving is a Western film set in Oregon in the early 1900s and is based off of Jack Curtis's book
Christmas in Calico. The film was shot in British Columbia and broadcast on CBS on November 25, 1999. The script was written by Scott Swanton,
and the movie was directed by Sam Pillsbury. Craig Lane was the First Assistant Production Coordinator for this film through
the Dogwood Productions, Inc. production office. The film underwent several name changes through the course of production,
including
A Shotgun Christmas Carol,
A Calico Christmas, and
When the Season Comes Round Again.
By Dawn's Early Light is a modern-day Western set in California and Colorado, and its stars are Richard Crenna and David Carradine. It was filmed
in British Columbia in 2000 and released on Showtime in 2001. The director was Arthur Allan Seidelman, and the script was
written by Jacqueline Feather and David Seidler. Craig Lane was the First Assistant Production Coordinator for this film through
the Dawn Productions, Inc. production office.
These papers from 1999-2000 document Craig J. Lane's experiences as a First Assistant Production Coordinator on the motion
pictures
The Secret of Giving and
By Dawn's Early Light. They include memos, schedules, contact information, contracts, technical drawings, and video tapes. Papers included are
from pre- and post-production.
The Secret of Giving production materials primarily refer to the production by its working title,
Christmas In Calico.
