Biographical Information:
A native of Chicago, Eileen Wingard grew up in Los Angeles, where she studied music at UCLA, eventually becoming a Fulbright
Scholar, with studies in Germany. As a professional music teacher and violinist, Wingard played with the San Diego Symphony
for over 35 years. She also played with the San Diego Opera Orchestra and the La Jolla Chamber Orchestra and has written and
lectured extensively on musical topics. She was chair of the Music Committee of the East County (54
th St.) JCC and/or its major driving force for over 18 years.
The Committee existed in various forms from 1958 to the mid 1990’s. In the late 1990’s the East County JCC was closed and
Jewish cultural events shifted to the Lawrence Family JCC in University City. The Music Committee programs served as a venue
for musicians, either local or visiting. There were virtuoso concerts; music marathons; honorary dinners for those who contributed
to musical life; a performing choir; the Jewish Community Center Symphony Orchestra (now located at Tifereth Israel Synagogue)
and any manner of special events during the year, organized by volunteers and professional musicians.
