This collection contains correspondence and other business papers of the Cleveland Pacific Mining Company, owned by William
F. Spieth and his son Lawrence C. Spieth, between 1906 and 1913.
Background
The Cleveland Pacific Mining Company was owned and operated by William F. Spieth and his son Lawrence C. Spieth of Cleveland,
Ohio. The company operated the Oro Fino mine near Escondido, in 1901. The mine was not very successful and the owners constantly
struggled with finances to keep it operating. It remained open until the early 1930s, but was dynamited shut due to the depression
and the rising cost of operation.
