Scrapbook 1, 1915-1968

Scope and Content Note

This album contains a mixture of photographs, newspaper clippings, ephemera, and correspondence primarily related to Thomas W. Beaumont, who served under T.E. Lawrence as a gunner in the Hejaz Armoured Car Company during the Arab Revolt. Notably, the volume includes approximately 100 photographs taken by Beaumont and his friends from 1915 to 1918.
Album has light blue covers; with Theodora Duncan bookplate containing handwritten note, "Beaumont Album."

Scope and Content Note

This album chiefly contains miscellaneous newspaper and periodical clippings and ephemera from the 1960s related to T.E. Lawrence, though sometimes only peripherally, as well as some brief correspondence from individuals to Duncan concerning her research. The binder also includes a typed copy of telephone conversation with George Edsell on June 2, 1964, regarding his memories as a boy of Lawrence at Clouds Hill.

Scope and Content Note

This album contains an assortment of secondary materials related to T.E. Lawrence that primarily dates from the 1960s and includes brief correspondence from individuals to Duncan about her research; newspaper clippings and book reviews about Lawrence, as well as news clippings about Lawrence-related areas in the Arabian Peninsula, such as reconstruction work on the Hejaz Railway in 1964. There is also a set of approximately 15 newspaper clippings from 1918 documenting the victories by the British against Turkish forces in Palestine during World War I.

This album contains a miscellaneous assortment of materials including newspaper and periodical clippings, with some 1935 clippings related to Lawrence's death, as well as an October 1917 periodical clipping, in Arabic, and a 1967 letter from British historian Arnold Toynbee to Duncan discussing Vietnam and communism.

Scope and Content Note

This scrapbook primarily contains copy prints of Imperial War Museum photographs related to Lawrence's military experiences in the Arab world between 1916-1918, with typed captions by Duncan, as well as a few original prints including a small snapshot of Lawrence on a camel at the Pyramids of Egypt, circa 1916, and two of Major J.A.L. Brown in 1945. There is also some additional ephemera, postcards of locales in the Middle East, and newspaper clippings about Lawrence through the 1960s.

Scope and Content Note

This scrapbook contains an assortment of photographs, postcards, clippings, and cards, dating from 1911 to 1960. The materials include copy prints of British Museum and Ashmolean Museum photographs documenting Lawrence's archaeological work, including digs at Carchemish, in Syria, in the early 1910s; as well as photographs related to his time as an aircraftman in Bridlington, England, in the mid 1930s, Lawrence's Brough motorcycle, Eric Kennington's effigy of Lawrence, and a few images of Evelyn Ives Sewell (whose life was saved by Lawrence in Karachi, India, in 1929); and some Christmas cards sent to Duncan from Lawrence's friends in the 1960s.

This scrapbook consists mainly of clippings and photocopies of articles dating from the late 1910s to the 1950s, with articles about Lawrence, his writing, and some reviews of books about Lawrence. There are also a few publisher prospectuses for works by Lawrence.

This album primarily contains newspaper and periodical clippings related to the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia and its lead actor, Peter O'Toole, as well as a set of 10 theater lobby placards for the film and a few clippings about the 1960 play Ross about T.E. Lawrence by Terence Rattigan.
Album has reddish-brown covers; without bookplate, but presumably compiled by Duncan.

This album primarily contains a miscellaneous assortment of newspaper and periodical clippings concerning to Lawrence and related individuals, which aside from some photocopied articles from the 1919 typically date from the 1960s. There is also some correspondence from individuals to Duncan concerning her research, and a program and two photographs of the June 6, 1963, presentation of the squadron standards by Princess Margaret to Royal Air Force squadrons.

Scope and Content Note

This album contains images, clippings, and ephemera chiefly documenting Lawrence's post-war years in Dorset, England, from the early 1920s to his death in 1935. Items primarily consist of 1960s postcards and photographs depicting the local Dorset landscape and individuals and buildings related to Lawrence, though there are some photographs (primarily reproductions) of Lawrence and friends. There are also photographs, ephemera, and correspondence, including some received and collected by Thomas Beaumont, chronicling Lawrence's funeral and subsequent memorials.
Notably the album includes a 1923 snapshot of Lawrence as a private in the Royal Tank Corps, given by Eric Kennington to Wing/Commander Sims; a brief May 1935 telegram from Lawrence to Beaumont; a printed thank you note from Lawrence's mother, Sarah Lawrence, to Beaumont, dated July 1935; and a brief letter from Sarah Lawrence to Beaumont, dated July 13, 1935.

As well, there are newspaper and periodical clippings, often with reviews of works about Lawrence and some typed transcriptions of documents related to Lawrence.

This album contains images, clippings, and ephemera chiefly documenting Lawrence's early life in Oxford, England, from his birth in 1889 to about 1910. Items primarily consist of 1960s postcards and photographs depicting the local Oxford landscape and individuals and buildings related to Lawrence, as well photographs (primarily reproductions) of Lawrence as a boy and his family. The earliest photographs are a few copy prints reproduced by Duncan from the collection of Lawrence's nanny Margo Jones. There are also some postcards of London, England, and locales in Turkey and the Middle East and correspondence to Duncan about her research.

Scope and Content Note

This album contains an assortment of newspaper and periodical clippings about Lawrence. Most clippings date form the late 1960s and touch upon Lawrence's wartime experiences, individuals associated with him, as well as reviews of books about Lawrence. The earliest clippings date from the late 1920s, and there are also articles from 1935 about his motorcycle accident and death. The album also contains a program for the October 21, 1967, unveiling ceremony for the memorial to Edmund Allenby in Felixstowe, England.

This album primarily contains newspaper clippings and ephemera from the 1960s related to the 1960 play Ross about T.E. Lawrence by Terence Rattigan, the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia, and a few clippings about the play Too True To Be Good by George Bernard Shaw. Among the items, there is a program for the first performance of Ross, sheet music for the 'Theme from Lawrence of Arabia' by Maurice Jarre, and two teacher's guides for the film.

This album contains an assortment of photographs, newspaper clippings, and some correspondence and ephemera concerning the Imperial Camel Corps. Items include ephemera from the Corps' reunion dinner on June 13, 1967; approximately thirty-five original snapshots and some copy prints of Imperial Camel Corps members including George Sewell, Laurence Moore, and C. H. N. Ashlin, and their activities in the Arab world, 1917-1918; a 1928 printed booklet containing lecture notes about Lawrence and the Corps by Captain D. G. Pearman; and a typed copy of an early history of the Corps by Ashlin.

The scrapbook also includes a copy of the April 1966 issue of John O'London's and a 33 1/3 RPM record of "The Funeral of Sir Winston Churchill" included in the August 1965 issue of National Geographic.

Scope and Content Note

This scrapbook chiefly contains newspaper clippings related to the 1962 film Lawrence of Arabia. Most of the clippings appear to have been collected by a clipping service and consist mainly of British newspaper from June 1961 to February 1962.

Scope and Content Note

This scrapbook contains one periodical clipping pasted on 11 pages: 'The Romantic Riddle of Lawrence of Arabia' by Keith Wheeler in the January 12, 1962, issue of Life magazine. The remaining pages of the volume are blank.

Scope and Content Note

This album contains 296 original color photographs taken by Margaret M. Herbring, in September and October 1970, of locales and buildings in England associated with Lawrence, as well as artwork and memorials.

Scope and Content Note

This album chiefly contains photographs and postcards, primarily from the 1960s, of locales and buildings associated with Lawrence's life in England, copy prints of photographs of Lawrence and surroundings during the Arab Revolt, 1917-1918 (reproduced from originals held by the Imperial War Museum), as well as images of artwork and memorials commemorating Lawrence. Margaret M. Herbring is the presumed compiler of this scrapbook based on the presence of a postcard addressed to her.
