Historical note
The Museum of Vertebrate Zoology's historical correspondence files was a filing system designed at the inception of the museum.
It is believed that Joseph Grinnell may have designed the system himself. The files are arranged alphabetically by surname
and then chronologically. All correspondence relating to curatorial activities, building operations, and general administrative
functions were preserved and filed in this collection. The collection dates from the museum's founding in 1908 and ends with
1930. The Museum of Vertebrate Zoology was moved to a new building in 1930 and a new correspondence collection was begun at
that time.
A card catalog of taxonomic and common names referenced in the correspondence collection is available.
