    Biography

    Melville Shavelson was an American writer, producer, and director. With collaborator Jack Rose, he was twice-nominated for an Academy Award in the writing category for THE SEVEN LITTLE FOYS (1955) and HOUSEBOAT (1958). He served as president of the Writers Guild of America, West.

    Collection Scope and Content Summary

    The Melville Shavelson papers span the years circa 1940s-1970s (bulk 1960s-1970s) and encompass approximately 62 linear feet. The collection includes production material and scripts for CAST A GIANT SHADOW (1966), MIXED COMPANY (1974), and THE WAR BETWEEN MEN AND WOMEN (1972). Two television programs, THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW and MY WORLD AND WELCOME TO IT, are represented by scripts and some production material. Finally, there are extensive project and script files, as well as correspondence, notes, some early career papers, and three production design drawings.
