The Shipowners & Merchants Towboat Company agreement (SAFR 14040, HDC 46) is comprised of one agreement between Shipowners & Merchant Towboat Company and the Inlandboatmen's Union of the Pacific, San Francisco Division, regarding wages, overtime, subsistence, hours, working conditions, vacations, method of employment, docking, assisting transporting ships, and general harbor work, dated 1954. Biographical / historical:

The parent company represented by the Shipowners and Merchants Tugboat Company was the Red Stack Tug operation, owned by Thomas B. Crowley. His father, Thomas Crowley, started the company with a rowboat on San Francisco Bay in 1892 and was active until his death in 1970. Crowley is now a large, diversified maritime and energy corporation. Thomas B. Crowley ran the company until 1992, and Thomas B. Crowley Jr. is the current chairman and CEO.
