    Historical or Biographical Note

    The Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, a subsidiary of U.S. Steel was located in Kearny, New Jersey and played a key role in supplying ships for World War I and World War II.     Flying Cloud (built 1939; freighter) correspondence, 1940 (SAFR 23830, HDC 1285) consists of 1 letter about the operation of the vessel. The collection has been processed to the item unit level and is open for use without restrictions.
    The letter, dated January 1, 1940, is a report from the guarantee engineer aboard S.S. Flying Cloud to W.W. Smith, chief engineer, Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company about the mechanical operation of the vessel from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires and back to New York during November and December of 1939. 3pp.
