Historical Note:
The Industrial Association of the San Fernando Valley (IASFV), now called the Valley
Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), is a non-profit organization formed in 1949 by a
group of retailers, professionals, service organizations, chambers of commerce, banks, and
government agencies to attract industry to the San Fernando Valley, a suburban community in
Los Angeles. IASFV adopted a ten-point program to increase employment opportunities and to
protect the interests of Valley property owners and investors.
The Association campaigns for adequate municipal services, including flood control,
freeways, highways, public transportation, railroad grade separations, and zoning. It has
also assisted California State University, Northridge (CSUN) to establish a library, Urban
Studies Center, and School of Engineering, and provided support in the development of
student housing and competitive salaries for professors at CSUN.
The first Board of Directors consisted of O.K. Buck, Lee Degnan, David E. Fulwider, R.
Hollingsworth, Kersey Kinsey, Vernon E. Lohr, H.R. Lutz, W.T. Heinley, James G. Moran,
Claire Newberry, LeRoy D. Owen, Edward P. Ripley, Harry F. Ross, Roy C. Seeley, and A. H.
Smith.
