    Historical Note:

The Industrial Association of the San Fernando Valley (IASFV), now called the Valley Industry and Commerce Association (VICA), is a non-profit organization formed in 1949 by a group of retailers, professionals, service organizations, chambers of commerce, banks, and government agencies to attract industry to the San Fernando Valley, a suburban community in Los Angeles. IASFV adopted a ten-point program to increase employment opportunities and to protect the interests of Valley property owners and investors.
The Association campaigns for adequate municipal services, including flood control, freeways, highways, public transportation, railroad grade separations, and zoning. It has also assisted California State University, Northridge (CSUN) to establish a library, Urban Studies Center, and School of Engineering, and provided support in the development of student housing and competitive salaries for professors at CSUN.
The first Board of Directors consisted of O.K. Buck, Lee Degnan, David E. Fulwider, R. Hollingsworth, Kersey Kinsey, Vernon E. Lohr, H.R. Lutz, W.T. Heinley, James G. Moran, Claire Newberry, LeRoy D. Owen, Edward P. Ripley, Harry F. Ross, Roy C. Seeley, and A. H. Smith.

    Scope and Contents

The Industrial Association of the San Fernando Valley Collection documents the establishment and development of the Association and the corresponding growth of the San Fernando Valley. The bulk of the material consists of minutes and correspondence files. There are also a considerable number of oversize maps and charts. Administrative records such as by-laws, articles of incorporation, rosters, financial reports, newsletters, ordinances, press releases, resolutions, reports and speeches are also included in the collection. The collection is arranged in six series: Administrative Records (1950-1980), Records of the Board and Executive (1952-1980), Correspondence Files (1952-1981), Association Activities (1951-1978), General Subject Files (1952-1984), and Non-Manuscript Material (1915, 1950-1980).
Series I, Administrative Records, is comprised of the Association's organizational and housekeeping records such as by-laws, articles of incorporation, reports, membership rosters, press releases and related materials documenting the history and procedures of the organization.
