    Biography/Administrative History

    A New York native, Thomas Anthony Lynch operated a saloon in New York City. Coming to California in 1852, he was appointed a notary public for San Francisco by the Governor in June 1853. He was a deputy city treasurer there 1855-1856. A suit Lynch brought in 1855 against Alvin Adams, Daniel H. Haskell, and Isaac C. Woods resulted in a California Supreme Court decision in 1861. Lynch moved to Washoe County, Nevada, and was president of the Washoe Stock and Exchange Board in 1864. In 1867 he was living in Alameda, still working as a notary in San Francisco, and he died in San Francisco in 1868.

    The indexed volume includes credits and debits in accounts for James Doaks; R. E. Woods; George W. Turney and T. A. Lynch; Denis Lyons. Entries date from May 31 through October 26, 1855.
