Description
This collection contains material both from and related to Charles P. Kimball. Correspondence, receipts and a memorial are included.
Background
Charles P. Kimball was born 07/11/1821 in Bangor, Maine. His journey to California took place aboard the “Boston” and arrived in San Francisco 07/06/1849. In San Francisco he ran a ship “The Noisy Carrier Publishing Hall”, located on the Long Wharf in San Francisco, which had the largest variety of out of town papers in the city. He became a member of the Vigilance Committee, The Society of California Pioneers, the Mechanics' Institute, and Yerba Buena Lodge, No. 15, I.O.O.F.. He was also the owner of "The Noisy Carrier Book and Stationery Co." He was the publisher of the first San Francisco Directory in 1850.
