Scope and Contents

This series contains media submissions and entry applications, posters, flyers, programs, t-shirts, correspondence, planning materials, and feedback related to the annual Women of Color Film and Video Festival from 1992 to 2008. Festival submissions on VHS and DVD for some years are contained in this series, including those selected for the festival as well as those not selected.

Conditions Governing Access

Audiovisual media is unavailable until reformatted. Digital files may be made available in the UCSC Special Collections and Archives reading room. Some files may require reformatting before they can be accessed. Technical limitations may hinder the Library's ability to provide access to some digital files. Access to digital files on original carriers is prohibited; users must request to view access copies. Contact Special Collections and Archives in advance to request access to audiovisual media and digital files.

These materials are arranged alphabetically by last name of creator where available.

Processing Information

Digital files on 56 DVDs, 10 CDs, and 1 ZIP disk have not been processed.

Scope and Contents

Includes submitted videos both selected and not selected for screening at the Women of Color Film and Video Festival. Also includes a video-recorded Kresge Core Course lecture on the film festival given by two Women of Color Research Cluster members, Maylei Blackwell and Ana Bantigue Fajardo, in 1996. Formats include VHS, DVD, CD, ZIP disk, and Hi8. Additional information has been transcribed from original media containers.

Scope and Contents

This series contains materials related to the 2005 publication entitled Beyond the Frame: Women of Color and Visual Representation , edited by Neferti X. M. Tadiar and Angela Y. Davis with contributions from graduate students in the Women of Color Research Cluster. Cluster members also hosted "Women of Color and Visual Representations," an affiliated conference in the spring of 1999 where initial drafts of essay submissions were "read, discussed, and critiqued by invited scholars in a collaborative effort to sharpen the political intervention which they sought to make" (Tadiar and Davis, 2005). Included in this series are essay drafts arranged by topic, abstracts, and calls for submissions.

Scope and Contents

This series includes curriculum planning materials and project grants for courses on Women of Color taught at UCSC in the departments of History of Consciousness, Women's/Feminist Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, and Community Studies. It also includes anonymous results for the Ethnic Course (E) requirement survey given to students involved in the Women of Color Research Cluster.
