Background
The three-masted lumber schooner C.A. THAYER was built in 1895 at Hans D. Bendixsen's shipyard in Fairhaven, California. At
one time, hundreds of sailing schooners carried lumber to San Francisco from Washington, Oregon and the California Redwood
Coast. The C.A. THAYER is a rare survivor from those days. For more information on the ship, see "C.A. THAYER History," on
the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park website, http://www.nps.gov/safr/historyculture/ca-thayer-history.html.
