Description
This annotated chart from C.A. THAYER, 1957, (SAFR 21380, HDC 1317) shows the route and daily distance from Seattle to the Bering Sea. It is a chart of the West Coast of North America, San Diego to Bering Sea and Hawaiian Islands, which is stamped November 16, 1946. The collection is open for use.
Background
The three-masted lumber schooner C.A. THAYER was built in 1895 at Hans D. Bendixsen's shipyard in Fairhaven, California. At one time, hundreds of sailing schooners carried lumber to San Francisco from Washington, Oregon and the California Redwood Coast. The C.A. THAYER is a rare survivor from those days. For more information on the ship, see "C.A. THAYER History," on the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park website, http://www.nps.gov/safr/historyculture/ca-thayer-history.html.
