Background
Jerry Burchfield, born in 1947, was an photographer living in Southern California. From 1973 to 1987, Burchfield co-owned BC Space Gallery in Laguna Beach. Much of the art displayed in this gallery had political implications, particularly about environmental issues. Burchfield and other photographers began photographing and documenting Laguna Cayon in 1974 in order to try to prevent a development being built there.
