Historical Note
Founded in Florida in 1956--then based in Los Angeles during the 1960s and early 1970s--the Prosperos espoused (principally
through the writings of co-founder Thane Walker) a program of transformative spiritual education that combined mysticism,
psychology, astrology; and an openness to homosexuality, bisexuality and androgyny. During the 1960s, its mission statement
read, "The Prosperos is a non-profit religio-educational institution devoted to research, study and education in the New Frontiers
of the heart, the mind and the spirit."
