Biographical / Historical
"Chunchu" is an alternate name for the Asháninka tribe. It comes from a Quechua word
meaning "forest dwellers." Chunchu has been used pejoratively in Peruvian Spanish, and
it is not preferred by most Asháninka people. The Asháninka were known by the Inca as
Anti or Campa.
