unknown photographer from 1st and Howard Streets.
Access is restricted due to the daguerreotypes' fragility. Permission of photo archivist
required for access.

Existence and Location of Copies
Copy prints are housed in the San Francisco Streets Photography Collection (PC-SF-Streets)
under San Francisco General Views, 1851.
Each panel consists of a whole-plate daguerreotype measuring 19 x 24 cm. Plates 1-6 are
framed together.

Point, taken in the spring of 1851 by an unknown photographer from 1st and Howard Streets.
Businesses and other features captured include: Portsmouth Plaza, Oriental Hotel, Happy
Valley Market, Happy Valley Bakery, Ocean House, Cottage Content, People's Market, Vulcan
Foundry, Pacific Iron Works, Sutter House, the steamer C. M. Weber, abandoned ships, a
laundry woman, and shipbuilding works.
Materials in this collection, which were created in 1851, are in the public domain of the
United States. Permission to publish or reproduce is not required.
