Historical note
The Special Committee on Tenure was a joint committee of the University of California's Northern and Southern Branches of
the Academic Senate. Their goals were to research the status of, and opinions regarding, tenure in the University of California;
and to prepare and deliver recommendations regarding tenure to the Regents of the University of California.
Scope and Content
Record Series 593 contains the administrative files of the University of California Academic Senate, Southern Section, Special
Committee on Tenure, generated between 1950-1953. Files include reports, drafts, minutes, agendas, correspondence, questionnaires,
and lists generated by the Special Committee on Tenure, Southern Section, as well as the Special Committee on Tenure, Northern
Section, the Committee for Responsible University Government, and the Committee on Academic Freedom.
