Description
The Don Edwards Family Photograph Album Collection consists of personal photograph albums, scrapbooks, articles, clippings,
and correspondence related to the Don Edwards family. A bulk of the material is focused on former congressman Don Edwards
and his partner and wife, Edith Wilkie.
Background
Don Edwards was a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives between the years of 1963-1995. He was born
in San Jose, California on January 6, 1915 and passed away October 1, 2015 at the age of 100. Edwards was married to Edith
Wilkie in 1981 after 11 years together. Wilkie was a peace promoter and arms control activist, working as the executive director
of Congress' bipartisan and bicameral Arms Control and Foreign Policy Caucus from 1978 to 1995. Wilkie passed away March 31,
2011 due to cancer and pulmonary disease at the age of 64. A majority of the photograph albums and scrapbooks within this
collection were put together by Wilkie.
