Abstract: The collection contains audio recordings of sermons and services from 1978-2006 (with some gaps), transcripts of many sermons,
church newsletters, photographs, newspaper clippings, church histories, and theses written about the organization. In addition,
there is digitized material including oral histories, sermons and transcriptions.
Physical Location: The collection is stored onsite.
Language of Material: Collection materials are in English.

All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission

The Metropolitan Community Church of San Francisco (MCCSF) held its first worship service on February 22, 1970 in the upper
room of Jackson's Bar conducted by Rev. Howard Wells. The church was chartered April 26, 1970. The describe their mission
is to be a beloved community joining together from diverse spiritual backgrounds and ministering primarily within the Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgendered
Community as a house of prayer of all people and a home for queer spirituality. In 1979 the congregation found a permanent
home at 150 Eureka St.
