Processing Information
Albert Schweitzer was a theologian, author, musician, and medical missionary. In 1913, he founded a hospital in Lambarn, Gabon,
in French Equatorial Africa to which he devoted his entire life. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953.
Biography / Administrative History
Collection contains five letters and two photographs. Written between 1956-1964, these are thank you letters from Albert Schweitzer
to the Atkinson Foundation for monetary gifts to the general hospital and leper village in Lambarn, Gabon. Four of the letters
are addressed to Donald K. Grant at the Foundation. Each letter has a portion in English. One letter is written by Marion
Mill Preminger, four by Ari Silver. Each letter then has a separate portion hand-written in French by Schweitzer. All letters
have English translations. One photograph of the Ogoou River and Lambarn. One photograph of Schweitzer at the leper village.
Scope and Content of Collection
Five letters and two signed photographs from Albert Schweitzer with English translations. Letters are dated February 17, 1956;
February 6, 1960; February 14, 1962; March 28, 1963; and January 8, 1964.
