Historical Background
The Elections Committee of the County of Orange (ECCO) is a political action committee that
works on behalf of civil rights, mainly those of the LGBT community and women. The
organization was founded in 1982 after a group of gay men and lesbians gathered in Orange
County to discuss political issues in their community relating to discrimination against
homosexuals. Soon it became a licensed political action committee led by founding co-chairs
Georgia Garrett-Norris and Dan Wooldridge. Since then, the all-volunteer, non-partisan
organization has worked to educate legislators about the issues facing the LGBT community
and women in Southern California and all over the country. ECCO holds an annual fundraising
dinner to raise awareness and funds, and to recognize community members for their work in
support of LGBT rights.
