Scope and Content of Collection

The Pasadena Digital History Collaboration is a cooperative effort by the Pasadena Public Library, the Pasadena Museum of History, Pasadena City College and the Huntington Garden documenting a range of topics relating to the history of Pasadena and surrounding areas through digitized graphic and textual materials. The Collaboration covers a broad range of subjects from the 1880s to the present day, including education, athletics, social and cultural gatherings and events, black and Latino history, graphic and performing arts, architecture, interior and landscape design, early history of automobiles and aviation, the construction and evolution of many well-known Pasadena landmarks, agriculture, commercial activity and development, visits by prominent individuals to the area, nature photography, local geography, historical photographs of Pasadena settings and citizens, the history of Pasadena institutions such as the Rose Bowl parade, Tournament of Roses, and the California Institute of Technology, and daily life in Pasadena throughout the years. Prominent individuals featured in the collection include Albert Einstein, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Pasadena natives Ray Bartlett and Jackie Robinson, General Pershing, Richard Feynman, and Herbert Hoover. Formats include family photos, candid snapshots, formal portraits taken professionally, aerial and panoramic photographs, design drawings, photos published in newspapers and magazines, design drawings, paintings, and filmstrips.
