Biographical / Historical

Lydia Mendoza (1916-2007) was a singer-guitarist and one of the most prominent Mexican American recording artists of the twentieth century. Lydia Mendoza: A Family Autiobiography (1993) features direct oral testimony from Mendoza and her siblings Andrew, Beatriz, Juanita, Manuel, and María.
Chris Strachwitz (1931-2023) was a record producer, documentarian, and founder of Arhoolie Records. James Nicolopulos (1945-2010) was a professor of Spanish at the University of Texas at Austin and an expert on the Mexican American corrido tradition.
