Scope and Content

California photograph album, circa late 19th century to 1910. Album contains 319 black-and-white photographs of the San Francisco Bay area of California. Images include ships such as the Protet, General Frisbie, U.S.S. Chicago, S.S. Santa Rosa; houses,gardens, and ranches, including Fatjo Ranch in Hollister; railways and railroad stations; San Francisco Bay; old mill in Mill Valley; Cliff House in San Francisco; many shots of 1906 San Francisco earthquake damage, including City Hall, Odd Fellows Temple, St. Ignatius Church, and other buildings in San Francisco, and Stanford University buildings in Stanford; oak trees dedicated to professors on the University of California Berkeley campus; creeks, waterfalls, oak and redwood forests, and other scenic views; the casino in Santa Cruz (now part of the Beach Boardwalk); Portola Festival parade shots, including a Chinese dragon; post offices; rail construction for the Bay Shore S.P. Co.; family snapshots, picnics and excursions; 1906 earthquake damage to Stanford University; docks; horse-drawn carriages; bears, buffalo, and foxes presumably at the zoo; Golden Gate Park. The album is inscribed from Clara to Walter. Locations include Mill Valley, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Hollister, Green Valley, Yosemite, Woodside, Mount Tamalpais.
