    Scope and Contents note

    The Chester E. Blacow field notes consist of four notebooks and two loose pages. The first notebook details Blacow's bee keeping activities and it also includes a catalog of specimens collected in Hawaii. The second, third, and fourth volumes contain notes on birds observed in Hawaii.

    Biographical note

    Chester E. Blacow is best known for his Hawaiian bird collections. In 1911, Annie M. Alexander purchased a bird collection from Barclow. Accession numbers associated with the Blacow collection include, nos. 4419, 3815, and 3916.
    Blacow learned how to prepare bird skins as a student of Loye Miller.
