This collection comprises films of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) campus, buildings, and events during the 1960s
and early 1970s. It also includes some footage of the Irvine area during the early phases of its development.
When the University of California, Irvine set up its administrative organization prior to opening in 1965, a Public Relations
unit was established under the Vice Chancellor of Public Affairs. In 1970, Public Affairs was renamed University Relations
and reported directly to the Chancellor. University Relations was responsible for maintaining positive relations and communications
with the community, including development and publications in a variety of media, such as film. Over the years University
Relations evolved into University Communications.
