    Historical note

The Pepperdine College Bulletin, later renamed the Pepperdine University Bulletin, was a publication produced by Pepperdine from 1937 to 2000. Originally published six times per year, issues consisted mostly of brochures and other advertisements for prospective students to consider attending Pepperdine along with the annual academic catalog. As Pepperdine grew, the types of materials published expanded, as well as the number of issues produced per year, and by 1963 the bulletin became a monthly publication. In the 1980s, the focus of the bulletin shifted, and issues became almost solely academic catalogs for the various schools of the university. This continued until 2000, after which catalogs were published as individual publications no longer under the Pepperdine University Bulletin title.

    Scope and Content

The collection contains printed materials related to information about Pepperdine College and University for both current and prospective students. Issues of the Pepperdine University Bulletin consist of mostly brochures with information about Pepperdine, including facts about the campus and schools; news; information about scholarships and scholarship winners; new staff announcements; essays and articles written by administrators and faculty; church programs; schedules for bible lectures; special issues focusing on departments or events (like the basketball team, the library or the religion department); commencement announcements and programs; pictorial editions with photos of campus and students; fundraising calls; student handbooks; the year’s achievements; information about the forum arts course; the chancellors newsletter; and admissions materials.
The collection also contains academic catalogs for all the schools at Pepperdine, published both as issues of the University Bulletin and as separate publications, which contain course descriptions as well as information on degree requirements. The shift from bulletins to catalogs begins in 1982.
In addition the collection includes schedules of classes, published each academic term that gave information on times and locations of particular courses as well as academic policies and registration procedures. Materials in the collection range from 1937 to 2012.
